ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are color-driven, dream-like narratives focused on the inner world of childhood. Loss is the central theme in my current work— the loss of innocence, of youth, and of home. Loss is, in itself, a solitary experience, and I paint young girls by themselves, or accompanied by a duplicate self that serves as the girl’s sole companion. The image of twins has become a recurring theme for me, representing both the solitude of childhood and the necessity of self-reliance. Domestic settings and images of houses serve to represent the fragility of childhood, and a quiet sense of violence permeates each painting, pointing to the burden of the knowledge of death.
